Kirk Ventiquattro

Kirk was employed at the Carthage Central School District for 39 years as a physical education teacher. He was also an accomplished coach during his tenure at CCSD. During Kirk's(Coach V) coaching time at CCSD he coached over100 sports seasons which included volleyball, football, basketball and lacrosse. He coached both boys and girls teams at various levels of competition.

  • Coach V's lacrosse teams won nearly 80% of their games over his 30 year career totaling 458 career wins. Those teams won 18 Frontier League Championships, 6 Section 3 Class B titles and made 3 State Championship appearances. Coach V has coached over 200 boys who have gone onto play college lacrosse, including 40 Division 1 players.
  • Kirk brought numerous sport camps to Carthage for both lacrosse and basketball which provided additional opportunities for kids.
  • He organized numerous fundraisers which allowed his teams to travel to NYC, Baltimore Maryland, Washington D.C., Myrtle Beach and Florida. Each trip included not only lacrosse but a cultural component and was an experience that many athletes may not have ever had otherwise.

In addition to his coaching career at Carthage, Coach V also had many accomplishments in other venues as outlined below.

  • Coach V was inducted into the Upstate Chapter of the Lacrosse Hall of Fame in the fall of 2010, the North Country Sports Hall of Fame in 2023 and the Carthage Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2024.
  • In 2018 he coached the Philippines National Lacrosse Team to a#10 World Ranking in Netanya.

Kirk was and continues to be heavily invested in the Carthage community as evidenced by the following contributions;

  • Coached various youth teams in the Carthage community including baseball, lacrosse, and Pop Warner football.
  • Along with his wife, Carmelita, they brought "Coach Pitch" baseball to Carthage in1988 and 35 years later the league is still going strong.
  • He initiated and organized a Wounded Warrior fund raiser for 3 years at Carthage that included a lacrosse tournament with all proceeds going to the Wounded Warriors.
  • In 2011along with his sons, after his cancer diagnosis, established Team 24.
  • Team 24 lacrosse events helped raise money for the American Cancer Society. Recently Team 24 partnered with the Dot's Community Fund and donated all proceeds to the organization that helps local communities including Carthage, by making donations to people in need. The annual Rock the Night Away to Beat Cancer is held locally and Dot's Community Fund gets all proceeds.
  • Two years ago, Kirk along with fellow 1977 Carthage grads, helped establish Jimmer's Posse Walk, held annually to raise awareness of childhood cancers.
  • In 2024 Team 24/Caskinette Ford combined to establish the first Carthage Lacrosse Hall of Fame and honored 30 former Carthage men and women. The event proceeds were donated to the Dot's Community Fund and used to help families in need locally.
ESTABLISHMENT

In the spring of 2004, the Carthage Central School District Board of Education established the Distinguished Contributor Hall of Achievement. The Hall was established to "Recognize and celebrate persons associated with the Carthage Central School District by honoring those who have made outstanding contributions of time and talent, and served as positive role models for students of the District and the community at large." The establishment of the Hall and the selection of the first inductee, Paul Marolf, coincided with the District's 50th Anniversary celebration. All inductees pictures are displayed in the commons area outside of the high school auditorium.

The Board of Education will seek nominations for induction on an annual basis. The Board of Education is encouraging community members to submit nominations for consideration.

SELECTION CRITERIA

"An outstanding and unique contribution or level of service to the district, the profession of education or other good causes, whether it be at the local, regional, national, or international level, that advance education. Nominees shall also have distinguished themselves in the areas of citizenship, leadership, and dedication."

The nominee must have been associated with the District at least ten (10) years prior to nomination. Candidates must also represent a positive model to students of the District. They can NOT be an active employee of the District at the time of nomination.

Anyone may nominate a person for this distinction, except the individual himself/herself. Posthumous nominations will be accepted. Nomination forms are available at the Superintendent's Office, or by using this link (needed) to download the form.
